fourteen 7 Restaurant
Commercial fit out
Oxford St, Leederville
1996
Fourteen 7 was a noodle bar within the large empty space of a former electrical goods store. It is a series of smaller interlocking spaces within the field of the larger shell, each offering diners a different spatial experience: in front of; within; and between enclosing walls, with openings permitting views through and beyond.
An exterior condition has been added to this interior, not by any courtyard or fountain, but as the challenge “ where shall we sit – inside or out?” Where you sit deliberately alters your experience of being there.
“…….We end the day at Fourteen 7, a noodle bar designed by Patroni. We sit on bar stools at a high table inside a skewed lacquer box. Openings give us different views to the entrance, the kitchen, the wall counters. Again the design contrives to create a cockpit, a vantage point for every group of diners. Each has a sense of its own spatial circumstance, and an engagement with the whole.”
